About

Secular Jesus

The teachings of Jesus can provide a tremendous framework for living a positive life and making those around you better.  Compassion, forgiveness, humility, charity, and nonviolence  are all critical to living a peaceful life.

However, in today's world,  it can be difficult to accept the religious dogma as part of the package.

From a scientific perspective, there is literally no proof so religion relies on faith based on many others having faith.  Its okay if this makes you skeptical.

It is also okay to be skeptical of the those claiming to speak on behalf of religion.  These organizations are run by people, and power corrupts people in obvious, undeniable ways.   Power can cause individuals to abuse their authority for personal gain.   They will unfairly benefit themselves or their friends, or discriminate against or mistreat others.

Power leads individuals to become overly confident or arrogant, causing them to make poor decisions or to ignore the concerns or needs of others.  It leads to a sense of entitlement, causing them to feel they are above rules and accountability.

Lastly, we see folks in power tend to favor people similar to them, which leads to a lack of diversity and bias against those that are different.

While not everyone is corrupt by the power religion delivers, it is a theme that is repeat over, and over again.  It is okay to be skeptical or uneasy when actions conflict with the teachings of Jesus.

If you are religious, remember that your relationship with God is direct, and does not require anyone to act in between.  You can live a pious life without attending church.
